Applications

  • Inglaze Tableware
  • Ceramic Tiles
  • High temperature resistance up to 1200°C

Cobalt blue, digitally printed

Cobalt is the classic blue of ceramics: the blue of traditional blue and white porcelain and of Delft style tiles. DB54 brings that pigment to a laser printer. It prints cobalt designs onto waterslide decal paper as a single colour, so a pattern, a logo or a hand drawn motif fires as one clean, saturated blue rather than a blue mixed from cyan and magenta.

Made for in-glaze tableware and tile

DB54 is a high temperature, unfluxed ceramic toner. It fires in-glaze, so the glaze softens and takes the cobalt in, and the decoration becomes as hard wearing as the glaze itself. That is what tableware in daily use and tiles on walls and floors need: resistance to dishwashers, cleaning agents, abrasion and weather. Because it is unfluxed, the decal is coated with a fluxed covercoat before firing.

Firing

Fire DB54 inside the range shown above for your glaze, with the kiln ventilated up to about 420 °C so the covercoat burns out cleanly, then close the vent and rise to peak. A short hold at peak is enough. Every glaze behaves a little differently, so INEQS supplies a firing curve with the set and can test your ware before production. More in how to fire ceramic decals.

Combining cobalt with other colours

DB54 can be printed on its own or alongside other unfluxed single colours that fire in the same range, for example a cobalt pattern with a black maker’s mark. It runs in every INEQS printer and in selected Ricoh, Canon and Xerox engines after INEQS conversion. Send a design and a piece of your ware and INEQS will print, fire and return a sample.

Questions people ask

Which coating do I use with this set?

Fluxed sets can take lacquer only (no visible edges, less shine) or fluxed coating (shiny, possible edge). Unfluxed sets always need a fluxed coating.

How do I avoid the sticker effect?

Cover the whole decoration area with the fluxed material, or align the decal with an existing edge of the ware.

Can I get a test print?

Yes. Send a file and tell us the substrate; we print, fire and ship a sample.
